Reliance Jio May Be Losing Steam as Free Services End

NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio’s net subscriber addition has been losing steam, and this may also hasten the launch of low-end smartphones, ICICI Securities said. Jio’s mobile broadband subscriber base grew by only 1.5 million to 404 million, as per the Trai data.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) recently approved Google’s investments into Jio Platforms and the partnership to develop affordable 4G and even 5G Android-based smartphones.

Reliance Jio’s has been getting its devices – JioPhone series – made mainly by Flex, and is planning to bring out low cost 4G devices in a tie-up with Google, which though, will take time due to ongoing supply chain issues.

KTM has entered into a partnership in India with homegrown startup AlphaVector.
