NEW DELHI: Equity indices on Tuesday opened in green with benchmark BSE sensex rising over 750 points in morning trade, led by gains in index-heavyweights Reliance Industries, HDFC twins and ITC amid firm global cues.
Reclaiming the 40,000-mark, the 30-share BSE index was trading 787.88 points or 1.98 per cent higher at 40,660.19. While, the broader NSE Nifty was trading 235.60 points or 2.01 per cent up at 11,943.50.
Top gainers in the sensex pack include Hero MotoCorp, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, ITC, Reliance, HDFC, SBI with their shares rising as much as 3.63 per cent. While, Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel and Hindustan Unilever were trading in red, with their stocks down up to 2.51 per cent.
On NSE, all sub-indices were trading in green led by Nifty Metal, Media and Financial Services, Bank — up as much as 2.99 per cent.
According to analysts, markets are finding some ground after a disappointing Union Budget. Besides, manufacturing activity hitting an eight-year high eased investor concerns over economic recovery.
In the previous session, sensex rose 136.78 points or 0.34 per cent to settle at 39,872.31, and Nifty gained 46.05 points or 0.39 per cent to close at 11,707.90
Meanwhile, on a net basis, foreign institutional investors sold equities worth Rs 1,200.27 crore, while domestic institutional investors purchased shares worth Rs 1,286.63 crore on Monday, data available with stock exchanges showed.
